Continuing Education
- All continuing education must be relevant to occupational therapy or coursework approved by another health profession board or organization. For courses approved by other boards, we will honor the approved hours for the other professionals.
- All coursework for in-services required by your employer is acceptable except corporate compliance or any course specific to your employment i.e.: employee handbook, leave, etc.
- Proof of completion/attendance MUST be submitted (certificates, letters, or transcripts) to include following information: licensee name and/or license number, CE provider, coursework title, completion date, and number of contact hours awarded. Any proof of completion that does not include a numerical amount or educational unit of credit hours awarded will ONLY be granted one half-hour (1/2) credit for a maximum credit of (0.50) contact hours per each course reported that does not include the required proof of completion.
- One CPR certification course may be reported for a maximum credit of one (1) contact hour per each renewal period. A current copy of your certification letter, provider ID card, or a certified digital download is required to receive credit.
- Conference materials or letter from conference provider noting presentation hours* and the name of presenter(s) required for CE credit of the presentation time ONLY: preparation time is NOT included, and the course may ONLY be used once.
- Student supervision for Level II Fieldwork or Capstone Project mentorship are acceptable to meet continuing education requirements (limited hours– see below documentation required for proof). Level I Fieldwork supervision is NOT acceptable to meet CE requirements.
- Level II Fieldwork supervision: Verification provided by the school or a copy of the AOTA student form indicating you as one of the primary supervisors.
- Capstone* student mentoring supervision: Verification provided by the school or AOTA, indicating name of mentor and mentee, dates of the experience, and the signature page of the completed student evaluation form (Evaluation scores and comments MUST be deleted and/or blocked out). *FULL CAPSTONE EXPERIENCE REPORTING REQUIREMENTS CAN BE FOUND ON THE BOARD’S WEBSITE AT THIS LINK: https://www.ot.alabama.gov/renewals
- There is NO limit to the number of self-study hours you may obtain by home study methods such as online courses, webinars, or virtual classes.
No more than one-third (1/3) of your TOTAL required hours may be categorized as presentation hours*, academic coursework (copy of transcripts required), administrative/management, student supervision for Level II Fieldwork OR Capstone Project mentorship.
The remaining hours MUST be DIRECT PATIENT CARE-RELATED in their focus objectives.

Proof of coursework completion MUST be electronically submitted directly to CE Broker at www.cebroker.com or on the mobile app available on Apple & Android devices. Login to your CE Broker account to report CEUs + track your progress (basic account option is FREE: additional fees may apply to upgrade basic account features). Many CE providers offer options for direct-reporting coursework you have completed into your CE Broker account on your behalf: please do not report courses already reported by the CE provider. Course duplication(s) will NOT be accepted.
NO CONTINUING EDUCATION WILL BE DIRECTLY SUBMITTED TO, NOR ACCEPTED BY THIS OFFICE.

An IPhone and Android app is also available. This office will have access to your documents at the time of renewal for auditing purposes.
